Today, we are looking at the new processor Ryzen 9800X3D from AMD, and we will be mainly comparing it with the previous gaming Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
The new Ryzen 9800X3D brought a 14% gain in performance compared to the Ryzen 7800X3D. It’s a massive change for gamers enthusiasts, at least for the current gaming titles. however, AMD only claimed an 8% performance gain but what other testers and 3rd parties found was significantly higher, which led the Ryzen 9800X3D to be more promising.
The point is we are seeing a large lip performance between generations on AMD processors compared to Intel;
Performance rating FPS Ryzen 9800X3D vs 7800X3D
While making the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D as a reference we can clearly see that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D would take the lead in the gaming rankings. What was really surprising for the Computer base company, is the CPU is 14 percent ahead of the previous leader, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
Unit: Frames per second (FPS), Geometric mean
What should be noted is that the choice of games is crucial. In the editorial team’s tests, some gaming titles show almost no performance increase between the 9800X3D and 7800X3D. However, in other games, there’s a significant improvement of up to 28%—in line with AMD’s earlier claim of a 26% boost in 1080p titles.
Price to performance Ratio Ryzen 9800X3D vs 7800X3D
It seems likely that they’re winding down sales of these models to avoid direct competition with the new 9800X3D. While the 7800X3D may still offer better frames per dollar, the 9800X3D unquestionably delivers the best overall performance of any CPU available.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D stands out as both the fastest and highly efficient gaming processor. With its higher clock speeds, it’s also the most powerful eight-core processor in AMD’s lineup for various applications—outperforming even the Ryzen 7 9700X with its 105W TDP. Buyers of this X3D CPU no longer face any performance compromises in applications; instead, they benefit from enhanced processing power.
If there’s any downside to the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D beyond its modest power consumption, it’s the high price for an eight-core processor. With an MSRP of €529, it’s certainly an expensive option, although the premium over its predecessor is limited—the Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched at €499 in spring 2023 and is currently available starting from €467.
However, both points overlook that this processor was once much cheaper: in spring 2024, the 7800X3D was available for €350 or less for several weeks. AMD has since significantly raised the price level of its 8-core X3D platform by the end of 2024.
What time does the 9800X3D come out?
November 7, 2024, AMD has nailed the timing perfectly. The 9800X3D, undoubtedly the world’s best gaming processor, is hitting the market just in time for the holiday season, where it’s sure to see strong sales.
